Ellis started his radio career in 1979 at WLIR-FM
Hempstead NY, doing part time at the rock station, while attending Hofstra University. This was at a time
when you found very few African Americans in Rock Radio. The first full
time gig came a few years later at Urban WUSS Atlantic City, hosting
nights. Was fired by the PD after only 3 weeks, one day after the GM asked
Ellis about taking over the morning show. (The PD was the current morning
man) After spending the next few years doing the Jersey Shore radio
circuit, AC WMID-FM, Oldies WOND, and Rock/CHR WMGM, Ellis
left for Virginia in 1988, and Roanoke's "K92FM", (WXLK-FM)
and 9 months later WNVZ "Z104" Norfolk Virginia,
working with (WWKA-FM 92.3) "K92"
Orlando's Doc Holiday (Jeff Duncan).
When Doc left for Orlando, Ellis took his place hosting Z Morning Zoo
on "Z104". In 1992, after doing a short-term gig at
"The Power Pig", WFLZ, in Tampa, Ellis came to Orlando
to do nights at WCFB(-FM 94.5), "Young
Country B94.5". Over the next few years Ellis moved from nights, to
afternoons, to mornings, until WCFB flipped format to Urban AC.
Over the next few years, Ellis worked on air at Country KRPM, Seattle;
AC KBEE, Salt Lake; and Oldies WBBF, Rochester New York, before
returning to his adopted home, Orlando, and (WWKA-FM
92.3) "K92FM" in 2000. Over the next 5 years Ellis pulled
afternoon duties, before joining Melissa
Moore & Skid the Producer
on the K92fm Morning Show, until "K92FM" let him
go.
In February 2008, Ellis joins "Positive
Hits Z88.3", WPOZ(-FM 88.3), to
handle wake up duties with Tyler
McKenzie. You can contact Ellis on his My Space page: www.myspace.com/ebfeaster
