On Wednesday, Doris Ashwell, who hosted a talk program on WKIS-AM 740,  the first Central Florida station to do so. Celebrating on Thursday, a very good friend of this website, Dr. Larry "Larry Vee" Flegle blows out 64 candles. On Saturday, the 11th Central Florida Radio veteran Dave Kelly does the birthday dance. Don Howe Moves From CBS      8-10-12
The Museum of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg has announced that Don Howe has been named the Museum of Fine Arts Associate Director for Institutional Advancement. Don had been Senior Vice President/Market Manager for CBS Radio in Orlando and Tampa. The Orlando cluster included WOMX-FM 105.1, WOCL-FM105.9 and WJHM-FM 101.9.

WPOZ-FM 88.3 returns to the number one position once again. WOCL-FM 105.9, "Sunny 105.9" comes in at #2. The top 10 include: WOMX-FM 105.1, WXXL-FM 106.7, WMMO-FM 98.9, WWKA-FM 92.3, WCFB-FM 94.5, WMGF-FM 107.7, WRUM-FM 100.3 and WPYO-FM 95.3.

Fox Sports Radio, WYKE-FM 104.3, Inglis is being sold by the Citrus County Association For Retarded Citizens, Inc. the buyer is Baynet Management, Inc.  The $2.75 million price tag includes low power TV station WYKE-CD.

The syndicated Tom Joyner Morning Show has scheduled the 2012 Allstate Tom Joyner Family Reunion for Aug 30-Sep 3rd at The Gaylord Palms Resort in Orlando.

Genesis Announces I-4 News Network

With the Republican National Convention coming to the Tampa Bay area starting August 27th, Genesis Communications and it’s news stations will be right in the middle of all the coverage. The stations will be sending out the news team to not only broadcast live from the convention floor, but to also report live from the event zone, and Channelside. Coverage across the I-4 corridor has been ongoing leading up to the national event on the all news formats of: AM 820 News, WWBA-AM 820 Tampa, AM 1190 News WAMT-AM 1190, Orlando, and AM 1060 News, WIXC-AM 1060, Melbourne. With RNC News Minute features from the news room, Central Florida listeners have been able to stay in touch with what is heading to Tampa August 27th- 30th. During the RNC, the news teams will scour the floors of the Tampa Bay Convention Center and the streets surrounding the area from 3-7PM. Furthermore, Genesis’ 820 News daily talk host Dan Maduri will cover noteworthy topics of discussion with the help of political leaders, both locally and nationally, each evening from 7-10 PM on AM 820 News, News Talk 1470, AM 1190 News in Orlando and AM 1060 News on the Space Coast. Genesis Communications will also partner with the Tampa Bay Partnership from 9AM-1PM each day during the RNC for Front Row Tampa Bay, a live online broadcast with the top political members. Genesis News reporters and anchors, Steve Summers, Kathy Curtis, Roger P. Schulman and Glen Schultz will also report daily to keep listeners up to date will all of the breaking news during the convention.

Adam Lindemann, Chairman at WHKQ-FM 103.1 has announced that George Mier has been named Vice President/Program Director. Mier comes to Orlando via WSKQ-FM 97.9 in New York. 


Food Nation Joins Genesis Stations      8-25-12
Food Nation Radio Network and Elizabeth Dougherty announced today a new partnership with Genesis Communications to dramatically increase its broadcast footprint across the State of Florida. Food Nation Radio will also continue its broadcasts out of the New York State area. The Food Nation Radio Network will air each Sunday beginning Sep. 8th at 8AM on WIXC-AM 1060 on the East Coast of Florida, WAMT-AM 1190 in Central Florida and  will continue to air Saturdays at 4PM on WWBA News 820 on the West Coast of Florida.


Luis Martinez To Be Heard In Central Florida     8-25-12
WHKQ-FM 103.1 has announced that "The Luis Jimenez Show" will begin airing in Orlando on Monday, Aug. 27. President of owner TTB Media Corporation, Rafael Grullon said "This is a tremendous opportunity to bring Spanish radio's #1 radio personality to Orlando." "He is from Puerto Rico, has some roots in Orlando, has an 'East Coast sensibility,' and is the most talented radio personality I know. Luis is also fully bilingual-which fits well with WHKQ's unique bilingual Spanish Top 40 format."


Entercom And UF Sign Joint Sales Agreement      8-29-12
Entercom Communications Corp., owner of Gainesville's WSKY-FM 97.3 and WKTK-FM 98.5, and The University Of Florida has signed a seven year joint sales agreement. As of Sept 1st, Entercom will take responsibility for advertising sales at WRUF-AM 850 and WRUF-FM 103.7. This agreement provides UF with guaranteed monthly revenue. UF will still be in charge of programming both stations. Entercom will be  creating an "academic enhancement initiative" which will create internships and other opportunities for UF students at the company’s stations in Gainesville and other Entercom stations. Jerry Butler, WRUF-AM/FM operations director, will stay on and become the coordinator between the stations and Entercom.

WHOO Picks Up NBC Sports Programs      8-30-12
WHOO-AM 1080 will pick up three programs from the new NBC Sports Network. "The Erik Kuselias Show"
"Amani & Eytan" and "Dan Schwartzman" will be heard nightly between 7PM and 5AM and sports updates through the day. The launch of NBC Sports Radio will be Tues. Sep. 4.


Another Move At WHKQ     8-31-12
WHKQ-FM 103.1 has hired the afternoon host from WPAT-FM 93.1 in New York city. Gloria B. (Gloria Broussard) will be doing afternoons in Orlando beginning Sep. 4.
