WTLN History
In 1964, Thomas Moffit Sr., was an announcer in Philadelphia and was a consultant to radio preachers in the Northeast. His son, Thomas Jr., attended high school near Zellwood. After visiting his son he decided he liked the area enough to buy a radio station here. Delays in the purchase of a 1,000 watt station near Ocoee, owned by an Atlanta preacher, made Moffit decided to build his own station from scratch in Apopka. 5,000 watt WTLN-AM 1520 (named for members of his family: Tom, Linda and Nancy) the format was "middle of the road" laced with religious messages and programs. Inn 1968 Moffit, Jr. would become station manager and added WTLN-FM
95.3. In 1998 WTLN-AM would
move up the dial to 950.
