History of  WWKO-FM
Thanks to Marc Tyll for this history of WWKO.
WWKO-FM began operations in 1997 at 91.3 mHz with 900 watts directional. The station is licensed to Belleview although the transmitter, tower and studios are located in Ocala, eleven miles North of Belleview. The station programs satellite and local live “Southern Gospel” music in addition to select Bible teaching programs. The station’s owner, Keith Walker, previously owned WHOF-AM 640 Wildwood which also programmed a “Southern Gospel” format until Walker sold WHOF to the Villages of Lady Lake. The price for AM 640 was $1 million. After the WHOF sale was complete, Walker purchased WKFL-AM 1170 Bushnell and constructed
WWKO-FM 91.3 Belleview. Originally WWKO was strictly “Southern Gospel” until radio station WCFI-AM 1290 went off the air. WCFI talk personality Bobby D. moved his mid morning talk program, “The Bobby D. Show” from WCFI to FM 91.3. Other WCFI personnel include former operations manager Mel Turner who now handles programming at WWKO, and Station Manager Spencer Glover who now handles operations at FM 91.3.

In January 2006, Keith Walker, Walker Educational Broadcasting, sold WWKO-FM 91.3 to Charlotte, North Car
olina based BBN International www.bbnradio.org for $250,000. The format was changed from Southern Gospel to Inspirational and Bible Teaching programs. The call letters were changed to WYFZ.
