History of WPYO
1998-Cox Radio would assign WZKD-AM 950 to TM2, Inc. and acquire WPYO-FM 95.3. Cox owned seven stations; WDBO-AM 580, WWKA-FM 92.3, WZKD-AM 950, WHOO-AM 990, WMMO-FM 98.9 and WHTQ-FM 96.5 in Orlando, and WCFB-FM 94.5 in Daytona Beach. Cox would divest itself of WZKD-AM 950, would again hold the licenses of seven radio stations.

Cox Media Group Orlando announced that WPYO-FM 95.3 "Power 95.3"has changed its music format from hip hop to today’s top hits from popular genres. The new format will feature today’s top artists including, Bruno Mars, Camila Cabello, Drake, Kendrick Lamar, Rihanna, Post Malone, The Weeknd, Cardi B and Selena Gomez. The station will also give listeners 2-hour commercial free music 3 times a day, weekdays at 11:30AM, 4:30PM and 8:30PM.

With the sale of WPYO to Spanish Broadcasting System, Power 95.3 will end its broadcast on March 31.

Power 95.3 as you know it is coming to an end. What does this mean? Well, when you turn us on via Alexa or Google play, or when you get into your car and turn the dial to 95.3, you currently hear us. Starting Friday morning that will no longer be the case. There will be no more POWER 95.3, there will on no more Danie and Kevin mornings, 5’ o clock Traffic Jam etc.
Long story short another company has purchased the station, so what does this means for us? Unfortunately, we’re all out of a job, and something else will be broadcast on 95.3. This is a business, and these sorts of things happen. The last day of POWER 95.3 programming will be this Thursday, however, you will be able to hear a commercial free version of POWER at POWER ORLANDO.com. THIS IS NOT AND APRIL FOOL’S JOKE. This is really happening. We don’t know what’s next, but we thank you, and we love you, always…
