Birthdays This Week   11-1-10

Tampa Bay Lightening On "740 The Game"     11-3-10
The Tampa Bay Lightning Radio Network announced today that it has expanded its reach through a partnership with "740 the Game", WYGM-AM 740 in Orlando. The station will air its first broadcast tonight as the team takes on the Anaheim Ducks at 10PM. Lightning founder and radio color analyst Phil Esposito will visit every Friday afternoon at 3:30PM with “The Shot Doctor".

Rama Faces Fine   11-3-10
Rama Communications owns and leases WRHB-AM 1410, Leesburg to Heartbeat Radio. FCC agents paid the station a visit back in September after receiving a complaint. They found that "no managerial or staff personnel employed by Rama were present." The rules require the licensee to have a full-time presence. The FCC found other infractions, such as missing no copy of the time brokerage agreement available for public inspection. It's also alleged that Rama hired someone to work at the station and they greeted the FCC agents on their follow-up visit in October. These actions resulted in a $25,000 fine for Rama. 

New Program On Goliath Radio  11-3-10
Beginning Monday, The "new" "Angie's Travel and Shop Show" will be heard on WELE-AM 1380 from noon until 2PM. Paul Carpenella's "Mid-day Volusia" will move to the 3PM-4PM time slot. "Big Talk With Big John" will follow at 4PM.

New PD For The Gator   11-3-10
Ron Brooks has been appointed Program Director for the newly country formatted WRUF-FM 103.7 as well as sports formatted WRUF-AM 850. Ron comes from Country WNOE-FM 101.1 in New Orleans. Brooks says that even though the station is owned by the university, it will be competitive and commercial. He also says a new morning show is in the works.

host  Pat Flannagan who will celebrate tomorrow. Pat was the first female talk show host in Orlando. Happy Birthday Pat!

"Knight Fan Stan" On Radio Tonight    11-8-10
Lee Goldberg on WYGM-AM 740 will host "Knight Fan Stan" tonight (Monday), 11/8 starting 6PM on "Inside The Locker Room".

New Voices On The Gator    11-9-10 
WRUF-FM 103.7 Program Director Ron Brooks has taken the afternoon-drive duties as Gator Ron. Brooks also announced that "Big Stew" Sawyers and Audrey Lynn (who appears in the Jim Carrey movie "I love You Phillip Morris") will be the new morning show hosts.

Live and Local Morning Show Comes To "The Game"     11-10-10 
“Open Mike with Mike Bianchi and Brian Fritz  will begin Monday, November 15 at 6AM on WYGM-AM 740. Both Mike and Brian come over from WHOO-AM 1080. Bianchi is also a sports columnist for the Orlando Sentinel. The show will be heard Monday through Friday from 6AM-9AM. 

Welcome Home Bill, Welcome Home     11-14-10
After a short stint with Entercom Communications in Indianapolis, Bill Bokunic has joined Salem Communications in Orlando as the cluster General Sales Manager. The stations include WORL-AM 660, WTLN-AM 950 and WBZW-AM 1520. Bill tells us; "...I got my start in radio selling for WTLN so it is a bit of a homecoming".

Many happy returns to Oddo, co-host of the Buckethead Show on WTKS-FM 104.1 and to Paul B. Walker, Jr. formerly of  WTIR-AM 1300, both celebrating on Friday, November 19. Happy birthday, gentlemen! 

Lex And Terry Return To Gainesville     11-19-10   
After WRUF-FM 103.7 flipped to Country, syndicated Lex and Terry were no longer heard in Gainesville. Starting Nov. 29 they will bring their morning show to WHHZ-FM 100.5.

WOCA-AM To Simulcast On FM     11-20-10
Beginning today at 2PM, WOCA-AM 1370 Ocala begins broadcast operations on Ocala translator station W244BC-96.7 FM. Radio Training Network, Inc has sold the FM translator to Generations Broadcasting Corp. for $25,000.

Celebrating birthdays this coming week are "The Commodore", WTKS-FM 104.1 "Real Radio" afternoon host and dean of Central Florida Radio talk hosts, Jim Philips turns 63 on Thanksgiving day. Former member of the WTKS "Monsters", Tuddle aka Patrick Fowler turns 31 on Friday, Nov. 26. Happy birthday gentlemen!

Bye, Bye, Bye Delilah    11-23-10
Delilah, the evening syndicated show on WMGF-FM 107.7 has been dropped. The evening hours are now being voice-tracked by Lori Bradley.

Lu Valentino Picked Up By Dial Global   11-24-10
Lu Valentino who hosted "Love Phones with Lu Valentino" on WXXL-FM 106.7 also worked at WNFI-FM 99.9 and  WFKS-FM 99.9 in Central Florida, will be the new host on Dial Global's syndicated "Classic Rock" format nightly from 7PM-Midnight beginning Jan. 3, 2011. She will he heard on about 80 affiliates across the country. Most recently Lu was on the air in Mobile, Alabama and has worked in Phoenix, Tampa, Miami, Buffalo as well as Orlando. She'll be part of the team at Dial Global on which another Central Florida Radio alumni, Mark Samansky does Sundays from Midnight-5AM on the same "Classic Rock" syndication.

John Forsythe Joins Magic   11-26-10
The new voice on WMGF-FM 107.7 morning show is John Forsythe. John has been a morning show radio host for over 30 years. John is a native New Mexican. John comes to Central Florida via KOB-FM 99.3, Albuquerque.

All Christmas, All The Time      11-26-10
Looking for Christmas music to listen to on your way to the stores for all that Christmas shopping? WMGF-FM 107.7, WPOZ-FM 88.3 and WKTK-FM 98.5 have all gone all Christmas.

Movin' On Up    11-26-10
Russ Allen has been appointed Program Director at WHHZ-FM 100.5, "The Buzz" in Gainesville/Ocala. Allen will continue to program WTMG-FM 101.3 as well. Leroy The Love Toy had been the interim Program Director. He will remain as Production Director.

Happy Birthday      11-27-10
Celebrating birthdays in the coming days include WXXL-FM 106.7 morning co-host Johnny Magic who turns 47 on the 29th. Marc Bernier from WNDB-AM 1150 celebrates number 57 on the 30th. 

Tesh Gone From WMGF    11-30-10
"The John Tesh Radio Show" is no longer heard on WMGF-FM 107.7. His show had been heard in the afternoons and has been replaced by music.

Radio Insight Is Reporting....    11-30-10
Entravision Spanish CHR “Mega 98.1” WNUE-FM 98.1 has let go of its on-air staff and has begun stunting with a loop of Jose Feliciano’s “Feliz Navidad”. The station is advising listeners to tune in on Wednesday at 3:00pm. WNUE has fallen far behind Clear Channel’s “Rumba 100.3” WRUM-FM 100.3 in the battle between Orlando’s two Spanish language stations. 98.1 has the additional deficit of being a rimshot licensed to Titusville, FL with its tower right along the Atlantic coast. Entravision also operates Univision affiliate WVEN-TV and Telefutura affiliate WOTF-DT Channel 43 in the Orlando/Daytona Beach market.

A Very Special Birthday Greeting    11-30-10
Veteran Talk Host Gene Burns, who spent 14 years at WKIS-AM 740, will be celebrating his 70th birthday on Friday, December 3. Gene is still going strong at KGO-AM 810 from 7PM-10PM PST. A heartfelt happy birthday, Gene!
